Make a Bid for a Sustainable Christmas!

Make a Bid for a Sustainable Christmas!

An auction may not immediately come to mind when you think about where to shop for Christmas, but as most of the items for sale at Watton Salerooms are second hand, it could be your first choice if like many of us, you want to make the festive period less wasteful and more sustainable.

If you’re planning a get together this year and need extra seating for lunch on the big day, we have a great selection of good quality dining furniture on offer every week. Also going under the hammer are sofas & chairs for everyone to relax on afterwards along with rugs, throws, cushions, lamps, pictures and mirrors to give your room that extra cosy feel. You could even bid on a bed or two in case your guests need to stay over after one too many mince pies!

What to watch can often be a major discussion over the festive period, so another TV might prevent a few arguments. We can help with additional crockery & cutlery as well as fridge or freezer space for all that extra food. We also sell microwave ovens, coffee machines and other kitchen equipment to help with the preparation, vacuum cleaners, washing machines and tumble driers for cleaning up after the event, and hi-fi equipment and radios to entertain you while you work.

So what about gifts? The possibilities are endless…..
Traditional gifts such as jewellery, watches and pens can be found in our cabinets. Why not add to a loved one’s collection – perhaps a paper weight, vase or perfume bottle for glass enthusiasts, a piece of their favourite china, or maybe a sought-after LP. Perhaps vintage clothing, kitchenalia or automobilia is more their thing or would something more up to date like a laptop, tablet or mobile phone be more appropriate? How about a guitar or other musical instrument for somebody who has always wanted to learn, or something nostalgic like a train set or Meccano?

For the outdoor type, we have cycles and sports equipment, and a wide selection of garden ornaments, pots and plants. We have even had customers purchase cars and motor bikes as gifts or a caravan for guests to stay in if there isn’t enough room indoors!

And if you usually give vouchers when you just can’t decide what to buy…. we even sell those too.

But don’t leave it too late – there aren’t many more auctions before Christmas!

Pennies for Pudsey….and Frank!

Pennies for Pudsey….and Frank!

Our regular customers will know that every year we donate amounts under £5.00 that have not been claimed by sellers after a few years to the BBC Children in Need appeal.

This year, we have decided that as well as supporting Children in Need we will be showing our support to Barbara’s sister, Hilary Tooke, who is running the London Marathon to raise money for the charity Frank Water.

If you would like to find out more about the charity that funds innovative and sustainable, community owned clean water and hygiene projects in some of the world’s poorest communities, or to sponsor Hilary please visit her Virgin Money sponsorship page virginmoneygiving.com/hilarytooke-londonmarathon

Alternatively, 10p from any purchase of sustainable cosmetics and household products made from Hilary’s online store,  Strictly Sustainable, will also be donated to Frank Water.

Thank you for your support.

Green : Station : Starfish

GREEN : STATION : STARFISH…What on Earth?
What Three Words, that’s what!

The Baldock based company What3Words Ltd. have devised an incredibly accurate way of finding and sharing exact locations anywhere in the world. They have divided the world into 3m squares and given each square a unique combination of three words. Using their website or app, you can search for and share What3Word addresses for your home or business, for example with customers and delivery drivers, or use it to direct family and friends to a meeting point. But where the system really comes into its own is in a situation such as a vehicle break-down, if you get lost in an unfamiliar area without obvious landmarks, or need help from the emergency services .
The square named GREEN : STATION : STARFISH is located outside the entrance to Watton Salerooms and Auctioneer, Stephen, says he couldn’t have wished for anything more appropriate for the business.
GREEN, the colour associated with being environmentally friendly, fits perfectly with the Salerooms’ trade in second-hand items, as re-using is even better for the environment than recycling.
Breckland Business Park, where our Salerooms are located, is built on part of the area occupied by former Royal Air Force STATION Watton. You could say we have re-purposed the site as a ‘Green Station’.
So, what about STARFISH? Well, it’s more relevant than you might think. Starfish have an amazing ability to regrow limbs that become severed or damaged. For this reason, they have come to represent salvation from hard times, healing, renewal, regeneration, and positive change. Exactly what we all need right now!
So, whilst the rainbow will forever be associated with Covid-19 and the incredible work done by the NHS and other key workers during the pandemic, the Starfish has to be the perfect symbol of post-Covid recovery.
We hope you like our appropriately re-decorated foyer, and we invite you to join us as we rekindle old friendships and regenerate our Auction Community. Welcome back, we’ve missed you!
